Service Description

This 2-day workshop uses traditional and contemporary approaches to monotype printmaking and suits participants with a drawing or painting background. Monotypes celebrate experimental gestures, allowing you to play with brushstrokes and mark-making to explore line, colour, texture, composition and tone, and can be seen in works by Degas, Matisse, Emin, and Armleder. On the first day we will cover the traditional techniques of reductive, additive and line transfer processes. Day two we will expand on the painterly approach using multiple layers of additive colour working from light to shadow to build a rich spontaneous image and explore colour interactions.
