Bring your tools and join Roslyn Kean to learn how to sharpen your wood and lino carving tools.
This is a great introduction or refresher to have your tools up to date for the year ahead. Roslyn Kean will go over various sharpening practices, materials, tools and where to purchase supplies if needed.

During the workshop gain an understanding of how to use a range of sharpening stones and honing items for general woodcut and lino cut tools, precision sharpening and old tools can also be restored. Roslyn can supply offcuts of thin leather to make individual strops wrapped around various diameter sticks /bamboo/ chop sticks etc
Available during the workshop:
Both ceramic and natural water stones ranging from 250 grit up to 10.000 grit
Small Arkansas oil stone 6,000 grit
Small slip stones for tiny U and V tools
Leather strops of various diameters
Flat leather strops for general use
Very fine wet and dry sandpaper
Flexcut Gold polishing compound
Flexcut slip strop
Polishing powder 8.000 grit
Soft pine blocks for creating individual tool strops for sharpening & polishing
It is recommended to bring old printing blocks or lino for testing the tools and sharpening progress. An old leather belt can be used to make a flat strop attached to a flat surface. Recycled leather good such as handbag can be used to create polishing strops. Come along to learn more.

Roslyn Kean
Since 1985 Roslyn Kean has been preoccupied with printmaking traditions of Japan, conducting master classes in the technique in printmaking studios and universities throughout Australia.
​
Roslyn has studied at the National Art School and Shillito Design School, Sydney and Slade School of Fine Art, London. In 1985 Roslyn was awarded a research scholarship by the Japanese Government to attend The Printmaking Dept., The National University of Fine Art, Tokyo to undertake postgraduate studies in Traditional Japanese woodblock printing.

During her career as an artist printmaker Roslyn Kean has taught at universities both nationally and in the UK. Her specialised area of Traditional Japanese methods of relief printing has enabled her to offer unique workshops throughout Australia. Currently she is the Director of The Stables Print Studio, Sydney where she works and offers unique open studio days to share her skills.
